About Us
The Swedish World Shops' Association has at present about 40 World Shop members located all over the country. The annual meeting is the highest decision making body, which also elects a board. The national office is located in Gothenburg. One staff member is currently employed for a youth project aiming at developing the knowledge about Fair Trade among youths and bringing them into worldshops, as volunteers or as customers. The project ends in December 2007.
The first World Shop in Sweden, Alternativ Handel (Alternative Trade) in Göteborg, was founded in 1969. In 1986 the national association U-SAM, U-landsgruppernas samarbetsförening (The Solidaritygroups’ Association) was founded. In 1997 the association change its name to Världsbutikerna för Rättvis Handel (Swedish World Shops' Association), which is the present name.
